‘RE/MAX PRESENTS: WHL SUITS UP WITH DON CHERRY TO PROMOTE ORGAN DONATION’

Kelowna, B.C. & Calgary, Alta. – RE / MAX is proud to work with the Western Hockey League to present the second season of "RE / MAX Presents: WHL Suits Up with Don Cherry to promote organ donation" – a series of events at WHL- markets to promote the importance of organ donation and to further support the Canada Kidney Foundation.

From Saturday, January 19 through March 2019, all 17 WHL Clubs on Canadian markets will host their own themed games, complete with a variety of special promotions for fans. Each game, a total of 1,000 limited second edition Don Cherry bobbleheads will be distributed to existing fans along with 1000 plaid RE / MAX liquor-koozy's in the shape of a house. Fans who are present will also receive a photo opportunity with a life-size cut Don Cherry.

On the ice, WHL Clubs will play their own unique and specially designed Don Cherry theme uniforms at a designated game week. This year, players will wear sports uniforms with nice nicknames, in contrast to traditional surnames on their shoulders. Fans will have the opportunity to bid for jerseys with a limited edition, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to local sections of the Kidney Foundation in Canada. In addition to uniforms worn on competitions, fans can bid on one jersey signed by Don Cherry on each participating WHL market.

During the WHL 2017-2019 season, the participating WHL Clubs teamed up with RE / MAX to raise more than $ 265,500, representing the largest public information and fundraising campaign in the history of the Canada Kidney Foundation.

"The WHL and our clubs based in Western Canada are again very pleased this season to partner with our business partner RE / MAX of Western Canada to further promote the importance of organ donation and to raise additional funds for the Kidney Foundation of Canada, "said WHL Commissioner Ron Robison. "Thanks to the constant involvement of hockey legend Don Cherry, his family and the success we experienced last season, we are convinced that our fans will be on board and will support this very important matter."

"On behalf of all RE / MAX employees in Western Canada, we are super excited to work with Don Cherry again this year for this fantastic night of hockey fun and fundraising for the great cause, The Kidney Foundation of Canada," said Elaine Langhout from RE / MAX Western Canada. "My family has been affected by kidney disease, so it's a cause that is close to my heart and we encourage fans to support the night when it comes to their city!"

"Thanks to RE / MAX, the WHL and all of his fans increased the number of transplants last year by 13 percent, "said Don Kers. "Let's keep this momentum by signing your donor card and talking to your family, it's only logical."

The Kidney Foundation is a cause in the Cherry family. Don's son, Tim, received a kidney transplant from his sister Cindy. With nearly 4,500 Canadians waiting for organ donation today – 76 percent needing a kidney – the Cherry family, RE / MAX and the WHL have gathered to create this awareness campaign to support the Kidney Foundation; who has a stand with every game to answer questions and hand out donation data.
